Autosport 2008 gave us an ideal opportunity to gauge how far we have come during the last twelve months.

The brief was to deliver a magazine of quality to our membership in the UK, one that would allow us to build on the many advances made in other areas and show our members just what can be achieved on limited resources.

SAE-UK publishing consultant, Jonathan Masding came back from the NEC buoyed by some very positive comments from the companies he met.

So just what have we achieved in 2007?

Well, for starters, we have provided a unique platform to keep our members informed of our upcoming news and events. More importantly, our

Not only was the Press Office its usual melee of organisers, photographers and editors jockeying for position, clients such as Sam Smith of Lola were also to be seen briefing his PR agent, Jardine International, whilst there was an unexpected but none the less welcome opportunity to finally meet Haymarket Exhibition organiser, Marcin Piechowski.

Marcin had taken banner ads on our websites and Inside Front Cover ads in all our issues in 2007 whilst Sam had supported pretty well every issue of Defence Integration as well as Vehicle Technology, so we were understandably keen for any feedback that may be offered.

Both organisations commented favourably on their campaigns, whilst James Godwin of TRW Conekt, spoke enthusiastically of the benefits of being associated with the global SAE brand.

publications have established themselves as mainstream media in the promotional calendars of an increasing number of major players in the market.

Even more exciting is the seemingly ever increasing surge of activity and interest on our three websites, www.sae-uk.org, www.vehicletechnology.org and www.defenceintegration.org

Whilst our journals now boast circulations of 6000 printed copies, visitor levels on our websites are reaching staggering proportions – upwards of 35,000 visitors and more than 2000 people reading the journals on line per month. Multiply that up and you quickly begin to get a grasp of the interest in the unique SAE-UK brand.

One thing is for certain – we are moving in the right direction and whether our advertisers are members or not, they respect the benefits we can offer them, just as we recognise the advantages bestowed upon us by being associated with the leading players in the market.

One other organisation exhibiting at Autosport deserves mention – Preston based Oakley Design have recently developed an interesting carbon fibre roll cage, claimed to contain a new anti splinter technology which possesses lifesaving qualities in the event of an impact. Look out for more news concerning this project online at www.vehicletechnology.org and in Vehicle Technology’s June issue.
