The first dozen of the powerful Mobility Installation Weapons Mounted Installation Kit (MWMIK) vehicles have been delivered ahead of their planned deployment to Afghanistan. The vehicles have been procured by the Specialist Utility Vehicles Integrated Project Team (SUV IPT) one of the eight IPTs and Groups who are participating in DVD this year.
Babcock Marine is delivering the £30M contract which was announced at DVD in 2007, with work taking place at the company’s Devonport dockyard. With a rate of production of about one vehicle per day, another 118 vehicles will be delivered by the summer.
The fast, powerful MWMIK can be fitted with a range of firepower, including a .50 calibre machine gun or an automatic grenade launcher and a general purpose machine gun. Carrying three soldiers with their individual weapons, and with a payload of four tonnes, they can reach speeds of 80mph, offering increased mobility and protection across a variety of terrains.
Members of SUV IPT responsible for the delivery of the MWMIK vehicles will be at DVD on 25th and 26th June at Millbrook. Visitors wishing to attend DVD must pre-register by visiting
